Admission Requirements

Minor in Artificial Intelligence

  • The minor requires 5 courses which have not been counted in any other minor or certificate within the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Students cannot apply for both Minor in AI and the Certificate in AI.
  • The certificate requires 5 courses which have not been counted in any other minor or certificate within the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
  • Students will select one of the two tracks: Development track or Applications track. The Development track is intended for students proficient in programming who will develop new algorithms and mechanisms in AI. The Applications track is opened to students with no prior programming experience who are interested to learn programming and how to use tools and algorithms of AI.
  • Students must satisfy the prerequisites required for each course in the certificate program.
  • All five courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

MS with Major in Artificial Intelligence

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are proud to offer Florida’s first MS program in Artificial Intelligence!  Be at the forefront of the fourth industrial revolution, as AI is transforming every industry.  Our innovative program and training curriculum cover AI theory, methods, and technologies. We are educating students and training professionals to develop new skills for jobs that are not yet defined, so they can join the first generation of an AI-and-autonomy workforce.  Applicants for admission to the master’s program are approved by the University upon the recommendation of the department.  All applicants must submit with their application the official transcripts from previous institutions attended. Applications for admission are evaluated on an individual basis. The Master of Science with Major in Artificial Intelligence program offers both thesis and non-thesis options. Both options require a minimum of 30 credits, as specified in Degree Requirements.  58 million jobs will be created in AI by 2022. Demand for AI professionals increased 423 percent across the state, with tremendous earning potential in careers such as artificial intelligence scientist, machine learning engineer, software architect, data scientist, survey statistician, research analyst, or robotics engineer.

MS Artificial Intelligence - Degree Requirements

The Master of Science with Major in Artificial Intelligence program offers both thesis and non-thesis options. Both options require a minimum of 30 credits.

Students must satisfy all of the University graduate requirements. In addition, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Students can take a maximum of 3 credits of independent study.
  2. At least one-half of the credits must be at the 6000 level or above
  3. Must have a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) or better.
  4. All courses in the degree program must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

Transfer Credits

Any transfer credits toward the requirements for a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence must be approved by the department, the College and the University. The transfer credits must correspond to equivalent requirements and performance levels expected for the degree. Normally no more than 6 credits of coursework (that have not been applied to a degree) can be transferred from another institution.

Students are expected to have taken Calculus 1 or Methods of Calculus and a statistics course, to be proficient in programming, and to be knowledgeable in data structures and algorithm analysis. Students can gain this knowledge through undergraduate classes or learn it through work experience. The admissions committee will evaluate the application holistically to determine applicant suitability using several factors such as academic performance, GPA, background, and experience. The admission committee may assign remedial courses on a case-by-case basis.
  • Submit official transcripts from previous institutions attended. The desirable minimum bachelor GPA is 3.0 (of a 4.0 maximum) in the last 60 credits attempted prior to graduation.
  • The GRE is not required for this program.
  • International students from non-English-speaking countries must be proficient in written and spoken English as evidenced by a TOEFL score of at least 500 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test), or 79 (Internet-based test), or at least 6.0 on the IELTS.
