Safety Education

Safety Education is here to improve and to increase safety on the Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses. To provide an inclusive residence hall environment where all residents feel welcome and are able to express their safety concerns in the residence halls. The programs overseers the residence halls desk operations. The Safety Education top priority is resident safety. To achieve this objective, sufficient Desk Assistants and Community Service Officers have been hired to provide 24-hour desk coverage in all the residence halls on the Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses.
Campus Police

Lost and Found properties are kept at the FAU Police Department. To report lost property, please complete FAU PD's Lost Property Report here.

Boca Campus: Lost property can be picked up from the Lost & Found located on the Breezeway next to the Bookstore Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 5:00pm. Contact Lost & Found at 561-297-2174

Jupiter Campus: Lost property can be picked up from the Lost & Found located at the RH3 Front Desk and the FAU PD Office.

FAU PD can help! Call FAU Police Department at 561-297-3500 to assist when your car battery dies. 

Residents are encouraged to monitor emergency information via Florida Atlantic University’s Advisory website. The Department of Housing and Residential Education staff will inform residents of necessary preparations in the event of a hurricane. Make sure you are prepared for Hurricane season by checking out our Hurricane resources. 

The popularity of electric bikes and electric scooters (e-bikes and e-scooters) has taken off over the past few years. Lithium-ion batteries are usually the source of power for both, and if not used correctly, or if damaged, those batteries can catch on fire or explode. Whether you use e-bikes or e-scooters as your main way of getting around, or just for fun, there are important safety tips to keep in mind when charging or storing these devices. 

Safety Tips

E-bikes, e-scooters, and batteries should never be brought into the Residential Buildings. All forms of transportation should remain outside unless for ADA accommodations. 

  • Only purchase and use devices, batteries, and charging equipment that are listed by a nationally recognized testing lab and labeled accordingly.
  • Always follow the instructions from the manufacturer.
  • Only use the battery and the charger that were designed for, and came with, the device.
  • Do not keep charging the device or device battery after it is fully charged.
  • Only charge one device or device battery at a time to prevent overloading the circuit.
  • Do not store batteries in direct sunlight or inside hot vehicles, and keep them away from children and liquids. 
  • Only have device repairs performed by a qualified professional.
  • Do not put lithium-ion batteries in the trash.
  • Recycling is always the best option. Take the batteries to a battery recycling location or contact your local waste department for disposal instructions.

Signs of a Problem

Stop using the e-bike or e-scooter if you notice any of these problems with the battery: unusual odor, change in color, too much heat, change in shape, leaking, smoking, or not keeping a charge.
