Transferring with an Associate of Arts Degree from a Florida College System or State University System Institution

  1. Applicants should present a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher on all attempted coursework.
  2. Admission to the School of Architecture, Wilkes Honors College, and Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing is limited. All applicants must meet the specific course and grade point average requirements for direct admission to those programs.
  3. Programs in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, such as Music majors, the College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science are selective and have additional requirements.
  4. Students in the Teacher Education program in the College of Education must pass all four parts of the State’s General Knowledge Exam that are required for any teacher preparation program.

*All other Colleges and majors, except for those described above, fall under the Undergraduate Admissions standard requirements for admission.

Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters

Any prospective architecture student who is interested in applying for the lower division sequence (Architectural Design 1-4) or upper division sequence (Architectural Design 5-9) will need to fill out an additional application for the School of Architecture, and submit a portfolio. Students must apply first to FAU using the Undergraduate Admission application. Please note that the School of Architecture has separate deadlines for their application and portfolio submission. Refer to their webpage for details.

All students interested in the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Communication Studies or the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Multimedia Studies must first apply to the corresponding pre major. Specific requirements must be met before admission to the major. Please check the FAU Catalog for additional information.

An audition on your principal instrument is required prior to admission into the Department of Music. For details regarding specific audition requirements for each instrument or for voice, please click here. To schedule an audition, please send an email to music@fau.edu and be sure to specify your instrument and the degree program in which you are interested.

Students seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design must select studio art on the application. Students must also pass a portfolio review for admission to the BFA program.

College of Business

Admission to Florida Atlantic University does not guarantee entrance to selective admissions majors in the College of Business.

A GPA of 2.5 or higher is required in the Pre-Business CORE coursesMath Boot Camp will be required for any students that have not successfully completed required math courses.

FAU counts a “course attempt” as any time a student is enrolled in a course (at any institution) and earns either a grade or a “W”. Transfer students who have not successfully completed a pre-business course within two attempts are not eligible to declare a business major at FAU. The College of Business will not permit third attempts for transfer students. Transfer students who have already attempted a pre-business course twice at a previous institution should speak with an advisor for more information.

Upon admission, your status is considered as a preliminary business major (pre-business). Please refer to the College of Business website for their undergraduate admissions policy and a list of business majors.

Pre-business students who have completed the requirements to declare should schedule an appointment with an academic advisor to complete the necessary paperwork.

Non-business majors who are considering a change to business should schedule an appointment with a business advisor to discuss.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Admission to Florida Atlantic University does not guarantee admission to the College of Engineering and Computer Science, therefore your status is as a preliminary engineering major (pre-engineering). Please refer to the college's website at fau.edu/engineering for detailed information on the admissions criteria.

To declare a major in the college, students must successfully complete MAC2311 and PHY2048 with Lab, and average at least a 2.25-2.5 GPA in these courses.  Math Boot Camp  will be required for any students that have not successfully completed required math courses.

Admission to the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing's Freshman Direct Admit track, Accelerated track, and the RN to BSN track is determined by the College. A supplemental application with the college is required. For information, please visit the College of Nursing homepage.

Science core courses must have been completed with a C or higher but a competitive GPA is preferred for most Science majors. Students interested in Pre-Med and who plan to go to medical school should visit the Pre-Health Professions Office.

College of Education

Upper division transfers applying for any Teacher Education program must pass all four parts of the State’s General Knowledge Exam that are required for any teacher preparation program.

Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College

Admission to Florida Atlantic University does not guarantee admission to Florida Atlantic University’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, the nation’s only university-affiliated, free-standing honors college. 

The Wilkes Honors College is located on our Jupiter campus, which is located approximately 45 minutes from our main Boca Raton campus.

Any potential Owl’s first step in the enrollment process is to apply for admission.

  2. Submit all official transcripts from all institutions attended (this includes JST and or CCAF /Air University if applicable)
  3. Submit all test scores (if applicable)

Students looking to utilize their military educational benefits should receive approval from their military counselor or service advisor prior to enrollment.

Please know that Military credits are reviewed and credit awarded using official transcripts and resources:

  • Joint Services Transcript (JST) American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations
  • Community College of the Air Force (CCAF)/Air University transcript
  • ACE Military Guide
  • Statewide Credit or Clock Hour for Military Experience Equivalency List
  • Discipline-faculty and subject-matter experts

The Offices of Admission and Registrar review military credits as potential equivalents to courses that may satisfy FAU’s General Education curriculum. Military credits are included in students’ personalized Degree Audit, Passing scores on the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST), and Defense Language Proficient Test (DLPT) are taken from the JST and included under “Exam Credits.”

Florida Atlantic’s Military & Veterans Student Success Center is dedicated to assisting you and your dependents with VA educational benefits. FAU student re-admission: FAU Policy requires that students who are not enrolled for three or more consecutive semesters must reapply for admission. Florida Atlantic University students who are deployed or otherwise provided orders for US military service that interrupts enrollment for 3 or more consecutive semesters will have their application fee waived upon providing a copy of military orders.

Consistent with Florida Board of Governors Regulation 6.013, Military Veterans and Active Duty, students who are or were members of the United States Armed Forces may earn appropriate academic college credit for college-level training and education acquired in the military. College credit will be granted to students with military training and coursework that is recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), subject to institution transfer practices and limitations on amount, level, etc., of transfer credit. Military training coursework will be subject to the same treatment as any other transfer credit evaluated, with the utilization of the ACE Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services or determining equivalency and alignment of military coursework with applicable University courses. If the coursework fulfills a general education, major course, and/or degree requirement, consistent with the college/department policy, the credit will be granted for meeting that requirement toward graduation. Applicable course credit may include elective course credit toward the degree.

To apply for such credit, military veterans or active duty service members should submit one of the following forms of documentation and evidence of appropriate test scores on the DSST Examination Program (formerly DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) in college and technical subjects.
