Mission

We are committed to providing access to our world-class programs, developing the professional workforce, and working with community partners. We inspire research, scholarship, and creative activity, while continuously enriching the educational experience for all of our students.

Our mission is to provide an intellectual, analytical, technical, and practical education to advance the state of knowledge in public administration and to enhance ethical public service within our service region.

Our bachelor and master programs provide professional education for leadership and management by offering a broad-based core curriculum that covers the essentials of both leadership and management in social, economic, political, local, national, and increasingly international contexts. The broad-based core curriculum is required of all students and highlights the management and leadership requirements that must be tailored to different types of public organizations in which these administrative functions are performed.

Welcome to the School of Public Administration!

There are many exciting challenges facing the public sector currently, and our five degree programs provide our students with an excellent education at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. The School of Public Administration offers Bachelor’s programs in public management and public safety administration (with concentrations in law enforcement and disaster management), Master’s programs in public administration and nonprofit management, and a Ph.D. program in public administration. Our students and alumni work in local, state, and federal government agencies in the United States, in nonprofit organizations, and in international government agencies. They make a difference in the lives of others every day. Do check out the student and alumni profiles on our website!

Our two signature centers that provide research and training for both university and public audiences are led by Carol Arias, Director of the John Scott Dailey Institute of Government (IOG) and Dr. Robin Larson, Executive Director of the LeRoy Collins Public Ethics Academy. Our School also continues to be the editorial home for a leading academic journal edited by Dr. Ali Farazmand: Public Organizations Review.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions to us. Dr. Cliff McCue is the Undergraduate Programs Coordinator for the Bachelor of Public Safety Administration and Bachelor of Public Management programs. Dr. Robin Larson is the Program Coordinator for the Master of Public Administration and the Master of Nonprofit Management programs and Dr. Art Sementelli serves as the Ph.D. Program Coordinator.

We look forward to continuing and expanding our innovative and stimulating curriculum and building on our shared values to provide exceptional educational opportunities for those choosing careers in the public and nonprofit sectors.

Best regards,

Alka
